Lindsay D. Mattison

Hi, I’m Lindsay D. Mattison, a Chef turned freelance writer living in Durango, CO. After graduating from Cascade Culinary School, I became the executive chef at Jackson’s Corner in Bend, OR, where I remained from 2013-2016. When I left Oregon, I decided to turn my passion for food into a writing career. In addition to recipe development, I also write articles that share restaurant secrets, educate home cooks with time saving tips and tricks, and review cooking gadgets and equipment.

In addition to writing for Reviewed (a USA Today company), Taste of Home, Cooktop Cove, SkinnyMs, Wide Open Eats, and DGO Magazine, I’m also working on a cookbook with Rainshadow Organics farm in Bend, OR. The book aims to teach home cooks how to craft beautiful meals without a recipe, tentatively titled “The Art of Bricolage: Cultivating Confidence and Creativity in the Kitchen.” While spending time on the farm writing this book, coupled with my interest in organic and sustainable food practices, I was inspired to find the farmer in myself.  I’m currently enjoying the trials and errors of small plot farming on my half acre lot in the beautiful Animas Valley.

When I moved to Bend, OR, in 2013, I was determined to become a chef. I quit my day job, became a minimum-wage line cook, enrolled in Culinary School, and worked my way up to becoming the chef at a Farm-to-Table style restaurant that served breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I cultivated relationships with local farmers to grow crop for the restaurant and I wrote weekly specials featuring seasonal farm-fresh fruits and vegetables.

I wanted something different when I moved to Durango, CO, in 2016. I had so much knowledge from begin a professional chef – including how to cook seasonal food – so I decided to share that passion with as many people as I could. I began freelance writing as a way to help home cooks become more confident in their own kitchens.
